RIGA ROGAINE - the biggest rogaining event in Latvia
On Saturday, November 29th, 2014, with the start next to the shopping mall "Alfa" so far the largest Latvian rogaining competition - Riga Rogaine - was held. Altogether more than 750 participants from 5 countries took place in the orienteering event.
The winner of the most challenging six-hour race was team "Geniaalne Superkonn" from Estonia.
Altogether in all distances - two, four and six-hour races participated more than 750 people, which set a new Latvian rogaining competition record taking into account number of participants. It was attended by teams formed of colleagues, and friends, as well as more than 50 family teams - parents with young children.
It was the first time, when the rogaining competition in Latvia was held in an urban area, since usually it takes place in a more remote locations. The event was an excellent opportunity to try and participate in the rogaining competition for people who had not tried it before. The three keys to success were the ability to navigate using a map, strategically plan the route, as well as the ability to be able physically complete the distance.
Rogaining is a team sport of long distance cross-country navigation and orienteering. Teams of 2 to 5 people choose which control points to visit within a certain time limit in order to maximise their score. Control points have different score value. Teams are ranked by the number of points they have collected. Rogaining is becoming more and more popular, and the 15th Rogaine World Championship in 2017 will be held in Latvia.
The event is offeed by the Riga City Council and Department of Education, Culture and Sport of the Riga City Council. Organized by xRace in cooperation with Latvian Orienteering Federation and O!
