Registration for orienteering competition "Riga Rogaining 2015" is open

Starting from February 2nd until March 19th, it is possible to register for "Riga Rogaining 2015", which will be held for the second time. The competition itself will take place on March 21st in Riga. Everybody and especially people without previous rogaine experience are welcome to register for one of the possible distances: 2h, 4h or 6h on the event's website.

"Rogaine is similar to one of the most popular kind of sports in Latvia - orienteering. It is also one of the most democratic sports, and it has several advantages because there is no need for special physical fitness to participate in the competition, and there is no need for a serious previous experience. Rogaine is especially popular among families with children who participate as a team - it is an adventure for both kids and parents. We are glad that residents and city visitors are happy to take part in the rogaine competition and we hope that this year we will have a lot of new participants," share organizers.

 
Main part of the race takes place in nature, however an interesting characteristics of the Riga Rogaine is that it combines both nature and urban environment. Participants are allowed to move on foot only - either walking or running. Although classical rogaine time limit is 24 hours, there are shorter races, too. The most enduring participants in Riga rogaine can choose 6h or 4h distance, however families with kids are welcome to complete the 2h distance.
 
Rogaine is an orienteering team sport, where teams of 2 to 5 participants compete in nature and urban environment. Teams choose which check points to visit within a certain time limit in order to maximise their score. Check points have different score value, and teams are ranked by the number of points they have collected. Moreover, the Riga Rogaine will be the first stage of the Latvian Rogaine Cup. The popularity of rogaine in Latvia is rapidly rising and in 2017 the World Rogaine Championship will be held in Latvia.
