Valmiera hosts the third City Legends rogaining round in mid-July
After a month and a half, on July 16, the third season of the popular rogaining series “Pilsētas Leģendas” organized by the “Piedzīvojumu sacensību apvienība” association will reach the equator, because the third stage of the biggest team orienteering competition in the Baltic States will take place in Valmiera, which will be called “Valmiermuižas Drumlinu rogainings”.
Original publication date: 02.06.2022
Rogaining will take place in Valmiera for the fourth consecutive year, in cooperation with Valmiera Municipality and with support from Isostar, Garmin, Valmiermuižas alus and Magnesia. Participants can choose the Garmin 6h, Kokmuiža 4h or ISOSTAR 2h team courses, a 3h MTB course, a 2h rogaining run (O-Run), or a children's rogaining walk.
This year, for the first time in Rogaining of Valmiera, we will visit the mythological creatures - drumlins. Wise, gray-haired men say that ten thousand years ago they were carved by a glacier, slowly sliding towards the south and leaving behind hills up to 5 km long like sleeping giants, between which swampy valleys and lakes (including Lake Burtnieku) soak. This time the map will be stretched directly in the direction of the glacier and the drumlins - from the north (Ligotni blueberry bog) to the south (up to the steep banks of Gauja). But the start is already long ago in the famous Valmiermuiža park. If you forget the Valmiera rogaining application, a drumlin will come at night, twist your compass and lose your left sneaker.
The legend about the ancient Valmiermuiža brewery and the famous Valmiermuiža (hunting) castle park says that in 13/14. at the turn of the century, the Valmiera castle owned a powerful pub where they sold gentlemen's beer. In 1624, it was moved to the place where the Valmiermuiža brewery is located today. In 1762, the manor was taken over by Prince Pēteris Augusts Frīdrihs of Schleswig, who built a hunting palace with a deer park here. Distinguished guests often visited here on their way to Petersburg.
In Rogaining competitions with 2 to 4 participants, the team includes both athletes and orienteering enthusiasts who are already masters of these competitions, as well as lovers of an active and sporty lifestyle who like to spend their free time in the fresh air and be active. That's why several families also use this option, because rogaining is a very democratic activity in its essence, since the participants can choose the distance and the number of checkpoints suitable for their abilities.
