Legend Rogaining visits Rūjiena for the first time this summer
The popular rogaining or team orienteering competition “Leģendu rogainings”, after a break of a few months, will continue in the middle of summer, on July 12, and will take place in the famous ice cream city Rūjien, gathering both very good orienteers and lovers of an active lifestyle, who, as usual, will be able to compete in distances of different lengths depending on their wishes and abilities.

The “Leģendu rogaininga” season started on March 22 with “Ķekavas leģendu rogainingu”, but after getting to know Dole Island three weeks later, on April 12, the Rogainers enjoyed the onset of spring “Rīgas pavasara leģendu rogainingā” on the banks of the Ķīšezer in Jaunciem. After a longer break of three months, the popular team orienteering competition will continue in the middle of summer in Northern Vidzeme, just like last year, only this time a little to the east of Mazsalac - the northernmost town in Latvia, Rūjien. Since the summer promises to be hot this time, on July 12, Rogainers should go to Rūjiena in search of refreshment for the famous ice cream.
The most active rogainers still have a vivid memory of last year's Mazsalacas Skānī mountain urban legends rogaining, which was called the most picturesque, because the participants had beautiful views of nature, especially in the well-known and picturesque Skaņākalnas nature park on the banks of the Salacas river. This time, you will be able to see beautiful natural scenery on the banks of another river in Northern Vidzeme - Rūja, which flows out in the territory of Estonia and from which Rūjiena got its name. The Rūja river was an important waterway of Livonia in ancient times, but the Rūjiena district itself was part of the Estonian Sakala state.
However, the competition center will be in the old Rūjiena stadium, not near the high school. The competition area will wind on both sides of the Rūjas river for several kilometers, including Tēcēni, Eriņa with a motor track, Jerus, near which are the ruins of the Rūjiena castle built in the 14th century, and Naukšēni, where the disco is playing. Just like last year in Mazsalac, also in another one 23 km away “Leģendu rogainings” is visiting for the first time in Rūjienas, Valmiera region.
“Rūjienas leģendu rogainingu” organized by the association “Piedzīvojumu sacensību apvienība” with the support of Valmiera municipality and in cooperation with Intervals.lv, Isostar, Garmin, TVNET+, “Magnesia” and “Gerble”.
The organizers offer the usual team distances to the participants according to their abilities and wishes - 6h Garmin and 4h Isostar, but the others will be with other sponsors - 2h TVNET+ rogaining distance, 2h Magnesia rogaining race and 3h Gerble MTB distance. This year, an innovation has been introduced - the TVNET+ Enterprise Challenge Award, the purpose of which is to determine the best enterprise teams in rogaining, to promote the collective cohesion, endurance and mutual cooperation of enterprises. In Rogaining competitions with 2 to 4 participants, the team includes both athletes and orienteering enthusiasts who are already masters of these competitions, as well as lovers of an active and sporty lifestyle who like to spend their free time in the fresh air and be active. That's why several families also use this option, because rogaining is a very democratic activity in its essence, since the participants can choose the distance and the number of checkpoints suitable for their abilities.
