3. GENERAL RULES
3.1. Rogaining is a competition where teams (and individuals in MTB and rogaining run courses) navigate through terrain, visiting control points marked on the map in a self-chosen order. Each control point has a specific point value, and the goal is to collect as many points as possible within the time limit of the chosen course.
3.2. Participants move only on foot (by bike in MTB courses), using the competition map provided by the organisers for navigation. During the course, electronic navigation devices may only be used in case of getting lost.
3.3. Traffic is not stopped during the rogaining. By taking part in the competition, participants are obliged to follow the Road Traffic Regulations of the Republic of Latvia, comply with the instructions of the organisers and referees, and respect specially marked areas on the course and in the event centre.
3.4. The organisers reserve the right to delay the start, change the course of the event, hold teams on the course or stop the competition if this is related to dangerous weather conditions or any other circumstances that may pose a safety risk to participants.
3.5. Within the competition it is allowed to include a company or organisation name or brand in the team name, as well as place stickers on equipment and participants’ clothing in accordance with these rules. Any company or organisation marketing or promotional activity not coordinated with the organisers, both during the event and related activities, is prohibited. The penalty for non-compliance with this rule is 2000 EUR. Advertising is allowed on participants’ clothing, footwear and competition equipment (backpacks etc.).
3.6. The organisers reserve the right to change and amend these rules, procedures and requirements at any time before and during the competition.
4. COURSES
2h rogaining, 4h rogaining and 6h rogaining are held in teams of 2–5 participants, of whom at least one must be 18 years old on the day of the competition.
2h rogaining run is an individual course where the participant plans their route and tries to collect as many points as possible by running within 2 hours.
3h bike rogaining is an individual course where the participant plans their route and tries to collect as many points as possible within 3 hours by bike. A fastened protective helmet must be worn on the head throughout the whole course.
Rogaining hike is a course suitable for everyone who prefers a less rushed pace and wants to visit the most beautiful places marked on the map, take photos there and enjoy the elements of orienteering. For this course, punches at control points will not be recorded, and no start or finish time will be fixed. Just like participants of other courses, hikers will receive a finisher’s medal and goodies from supporters at the finish, and will take part in a prize draw for Garmin watches and other prizes. Just remember – you may complete the course at any time, but to take part in the lottery and receive a medal, you must finish no earlier than before the start time of the last course and no later than 30 minutes after the time limit of the last course.
2h children’s walk (3–5 km) is intended for children up to 12 years of age (inclusive). The rogaining walks can be completed using an app or together with an instructor provided by the organisers. If a child under 7 years of age takes part in the rogaining walk, they must be accompanied by an adult who is responsible for the child. The accompanying adult does not have to pay a participation fee.

8. COURSE COMPLETION AND PUNCHING
8.1. The competition is held in accordance with the rogaining rules approved by LOF (Latvian Orienteering Federation), unless otherwise specified in these rules. The rules in Latvian are published on the Latvian rogaining website: https://rogaining.lv/web/noteikumi.
8.2. Before the start, each participant receives a set of maps – one competition map per participant.
8.3. The bib number must be worn in a visible place during the competition – on the backpack or competition clothing.
8.4. Punching at control points takes place using the SPORTIdent punching system, with each team member using an SI card issued by the organisers. SI cards are assigned to the team, not to individual participants, therefore it does not matter which team member uses which SI card.
8.5. For a control point to count, all team members must punch at the control point within two minutes, and only the first punch is taken into account for each control point. If a participant punches several times, only their first punch at that control point is taken into account. Therefore, do not approach the control point until you are sure that the whole team can punch within the required time.
8.6. Using the issued wristbands, team members must firmly attach the SI card to the wrist before the start in such a way that it cannot be removed without damaging the wristband, and must ensure that the SI card is not damaged or torn off the wrist until the finish, where it may only be removed by a referee. Starting with an unattached SI card may result in disqualification or another penalty at the discretion of the head referee.
8.7. If there is no sound or flashing red light when punching at a control point, the SI station is missing or damaged, participants must follow the instructions printed on the map.
8.8. The team’s finish time is recorded according to the last team member’s punch at the finish control. After punching at the finish, in the finish zone under the supervision of referees, the wristband must be removed, the SI card and all rented equipment must be returned.
8.9. For each minute exceeding the time limit, the team receives 1 penalty point, which is deducted from the total score. If the team finishes more than 30 minutes after the time limit, all points are cancelled. Control points visited after the time limit are not counted.
8.10. For each broken SI card wristband the team receives 5 penalty points, which are deducted from the total score.
8.11. Participants are obliged to respect the principles of fair play, both when completing the course and regarding equipment and other prohibited aids. Running with a dog is allowed only on a lead. If, in the opinion of the referees, this gives an advantage, it is also considered an aid, and in such cases the result is calculated but marked in the results as out of competition.
8.12. If an accident occurs with any team member or for any other reason the team is unable to continue the course, the referees must be contacted and further actions agreed.
8.13. After finishing or withdrawing, participants must return the rented SI card and any other rented equipment to the organisers. At the moment of returning the equipment, the participant must ensure that the referee receiving the equipment has recorded all returned items. For any unreturned rented equipment, the participant must pay a penalty according to these rules.
8.14. Participants are prohibited from leaving any kind of litter on the course, crossing cultivated fields, farmyards, forbidden areas or private properties, using motorised vehicles, as well as receiving any outside assistance, except in cases when first aid is required.
8.15. At the referees’ discretion, penalties may also be applied for other violations not mentioned in these rules, if in the referees’ opinion they provide an advantage, create disturbance or pose a threat to other participants. For example, moving or damaging a control point, etc. Penalties may be applied as penalty points or disqualification.
9. EQUIPMENT AND RENTAL
9.1. For route planning and course completion, the following may be useful: a compass with degree markings, pen (waterproof marker for planning and notes), ruler, watch, sports drink, energy food, and weather-appropriate clothing.
9.2. Participants may rent compasses by pre-booking them during registration on the website or by writing to xevents@xevents.lv.
9.3. Participants must treat rented equipment with care and return it to the organisers undamaged. If rented equipment is damaged or lost on the course, the participant must compensate the organisers for the losses as follows: SI card – 80 EUR; compass – 20 EUR; GPS – 80 EUR. The participant must cover these losses within 3 working days after the competition by transferring the money to the organisers’ bank account.
9.4. For calling for help in emergencies, a mobile phone (if necessary, in a waterproof bag) and/or a whistle is recommended but not mandatory.
10. RESULTS AND PRIZES
10.1. The result is formed by the sum of points gained at control points registered in the SI cards, minus any penalty points. If two or more teams (or individuals in the 3h MTB and 2h O-Run) have the same total points, the team that collected this score in the shortest time wins.
10.2. Official results are published on the competition website no later than 3 days after the event.
10.3. Prizes are awarded to the first three places in each category. The organisers reserve the right to congratulate only the first place if the number of teams or participants in a category does not exceed 6 teams. Teams are ranked and awarded only within their own age categories; therefore junior, veteran and super-veteran teams do not compete with and are not awarded within the Open category.
10.4. Protests must be submitted in writing no later than 15 minutes after the announcement of the results, with a deposit of 30 EUR. The deposit will be returned if the protest is upheld. The protest is reviewed immediately, unless additional information and investigation are required. All interested parties will be informed of the decision. The decision of the head referee is final and binding for all participants.
11. TVNET+ CORPORATE CHALLENGE AWARD
11.1. The purpose of the TVNET+ Corporate Challenge Award (hereinafter – Corporate Award) is to determine the best corporate teams in rogaining, to promote team building, endurance and cooperation within company teams by offering them an exciting and sporty adventure. This award gives companies a unique opportunity to strengthen their teams, develop their own strategy and compete in friendly rivalry, where the main emphasis is on the joy of participation, networking and team building rather than purely on competition.
11.2. The team entry fee is set out in point 7.2 of these rules. The Corporate category entry fee additionally includes:
- Separate rogaining and challenge awards;
- A link/logo in the team list leading to the company’s website;
- A company photo collage;
- Special offers from partners.
11.3. The Corporate Award is held within the 4-hour course, and teams may consist of any composition – mixed, women’s or men’s teams.
11.4. The Corporate Award includes a separate prize competition between teams representing companies or organisations. All rules in this document apply to the Corporate Award category unless otherwise stated in point 11 and its sub-points.
11.5. In the Corporate category, in each rogaining event over 4 hours, the team result is determined by the total number of points gained at control points in the shortest possible time. If two or more teams have the same number of points, the higher place is awarded to the team that finishes faster.
11.6. The Corporate Award is calculated by summing the points gained in the given distance in all rogaining events by teams representing the same company (by name), excluding one stage with the lowest result (a missed stage is also considered as such). In case of equal total points, the higher place is determined by the shorter total time spent on the courses. If the total times are also equal, the higher place is determined by the better result in the last rogaining of the season.
11.5. The top three Corporate Award teams, regardless of category, are awarded separate prizes. The result of the Corporate category team is also included in the overall Legend Rogainings ranking according to the class and category in which the team has competed, thereby also counting towards the overall prizes.
12. PUBLICITY AND PRIVACY
12.1. Photography and video recording will take place during the event.
12.2. By registering for the competition, participants confirm that they do not object to the use of photographs and video material taken during the rogaining for any marketing and promotional activities of the organiser and that the organisers have the right to use these materials for public relations and advertising purposes without separate consent from the persons depicted, as well as to offer other participants the possibility to download these materials.
12.3. By registering for the competition, participants confirm that they do not object to the publication of the start list and results on the competition website.
